How photo booth alternative works for baby showers
Snapr makes photo booth alternative for your baby shower simple and effortless. Create an event in seconds, get a unique QR code, and share it with your guests. They scan the code and upload photos directly — no app download needed.
Using Snapr instead of renting a photo booth: guests shoot on their own phones, upload through a QR code, and the pictures appear on a screen in the room. There is no box, no camera, no lighting and no prints — only the live screen and the shared gallery.
Everything is included in the free tier: up to 200 photos, live slideshow, QR code, and 14-day storage. Need more? Premium keeps the photos a full year, with original-quality downloads and unlimited uploads, for a one-time payment.
Setting up Photo Booth Alternative
- 1Decide what you are actually replacing. If the printed strips are the point, keep the booth. If it was the screen and the shared photos afterwards, Snapr covers that part.
- 2Create the event and print the QR code where the booth would have stood: table cards, a sign at the bar, one A4 poster by the dance floor.
- 3Put a TV or projector in that spot running the display page in grid mode, so there is still a place people gather and point at.
- 4If you want something physical anyway, pair it with a cheap instant camera, or order prints from the download afterwards — Premium keeps the originals for a year.
Photo Booth Alternative — the specifics
- Cost
- Free plan 0, or 199 NOK once for Premium. A photo booth rental in Norway runs 2,500–13,500 NOK for an evening.
- Camera and light
- Guests' own phone cameras in whatever light the room has. A booth brings a system camera and studio flash — you will not match that indoors at night.
- Prints
- None. A booth prints a strip in seconds, and that paper in someone's hand is the single thing Snapr cannot replace.
- Props and backdrop
- Not included. Rentals normally come with a backdrop, hats, glasses and signs, which is a large part of why people queue up.
- Attendant
- None. Most rentals include a person who keeps the queue moving and fixes the printer; with Snapr that job falls to you or a friend.
- Coverage
- Everyone shoots at the same time from anywhere in the venue, including the dinner table and outside. 200 photos on the free plan, unlimited with Premium, all in one gallery.
When something goes wrong
Guests expect a booth and ask where the prints come out.
Say it on the sign. Hosts who write "photo wall" or "photos on the screen" on the table cards, instead of "photo booth", get far fewer confused questions at the bar.
The photos are dark and grainy next to booth pictures.
Phone cameras have nothing to fight studio lighting with, and uploads are never brightened for you. Pick the corner with a lamp or fairy lights, put the QR sign there, and tell people to use the flash — one lit corner changes the whole gallery.
Nobody uploads, because there is no booth to queue for.
The booth was the prompt. Put the screen where the queue would have been, keep the QR code visible on it, and have someone announce it once right after the first speech — that is usually when the uploads start.
What it is not good for
If what you are paying for is prints in guests' hands, props, studio lighting and someone running it all evening, rent the booth — Snapr replaces none of those; it only collects and shows what the phones in the room already capture.

Related features
Built for the one evening where it has to just work.
QR Code
The QR code holds one thing: the guest upload address for a single event — a snapr.no link with the event id and a 64-character access key. A phone camera opens it in the browser. Every event gets its own code, and it points at nothing else.
Live Slideshow
A full-screen browser page at snapr.no/<language>/event/<event-id>/display that listens for new uploads and shows them as they arrive. It runs on whatever drives the screen — laptop, TV browser, Chromecast or AirPlay — and needs no software installed.
Photo Sharing
After scanning the QR code a guest lands on an upload page in the phone's browser: one button opens the camera, the other picks from the gallery, up to 20 files per go. The files join the event's shared collection and appear on the big screen.
Photo Wall
A photo wall is the grid mode of the display page: instead of one picture at a time, the screen tiles up to six guest photos at once in a fixed asymmetric layout, and the selection moves one photo forward on every interval as new uploads arrive.
TV Display
TV display means getting the event's display page onto the television at the venue. Three routes: an HDMI cable from a laptop, casting a Chrome tab to a Chromecast, or AirPlay screen mirroring. The TV runs an ordinary web page — there is no Snapr TV app.
Guest Upload
Guest upload is the core of Snapr: a guest points their phone camera at your QR code, the upload page opens in the browser, and they pick photos from the camera roll or shoot a new one. No app, no account, no password — the link itself is the access.
Frequently Asked Questions
What guests and hosts ask about most.
The mom-to-be is busy opening gifts the whole time — how does she end up with photos if she's not taking any herself?
That's the point of Snapr — every guest becomes a photographer. While she's opening gifts and chatting with friends, everyone else uploads their shots of the moment, so she ends up with a full gallery from other people's perspectives without having to lift her phone once.
Is a small, intimate baby shower with close friends still worth setting up a QR code for?
Yes — with 5-25 guests it takes seconds to set up and there's zero cost for the free plan, so even the most intimate gathering gets photos automatically collected in one place instead of you having to text everyone afterward asking for their pictures.
Can we send the mom-to-be all the photos afterward as a gift?
Yes, everyone can download individual photos anytime, and with Premium you can download the whole set at once as a ZIP file — a nice way to hand her a complete photo album from her shower after the party's over.
