How photo download works for galas
Snapr makes photo download for your gala simple and effortless. Create an event in seconds, get a unique QR code, and share it with your guests. They scan the code and upload photos directly — no app download needed.
Photo download is how the host gets everything out afterwards. On the event page, Download all fetches every photo and video in the gallery, packs them into one ZIP in the browser and saves it to your computer. The files come out exactly as guests uploaded them.
Everything is included in the free tier: up to 200 photos, live slideshow, QR code, and 14-day storage. Need more? Premium keeps the photos a full year, with original-quality downloads and unlimited uploads, for a one-time payment.
Setting up Photo Download
- 1Wait a day or two before downloading — people keep uploading the morning after, and you do not want two half-complete ZIPs.
- 2Open the event in your dashboard on a laptop and check the media count against what you expect.
- 3Press Download all and leave the tab open and in the foreground; a percentage counts up while the files are fetched and zipped.
- 4Unzip it, copy the folder to wherever you actually keep photos, and only then stop worrying about the storage deadline — 14 days on free, a year on Premium.
Photo Download — the specifics
- Who can download everything
- The host, from the event page. Download all is a Premium feature; free events show the upgrade instead.
- Format
- One ZIP named after the event, with a single folder inside holding all photos and videos.
- Quality
- Premium downloads give you the file exactly as uploaded. Free events download the display copy, which is resized to 2048 px for fast loading.
- File names in the ZIP
- Renamed to image_… and video_… with the original extension. Guest file names are not carried over.
- How much there can be
- Up to unlimited files on Premium, downloaded at original quality — a fully used event is a very large ZIP, so download on a computer.
- Deadline
- 14 days on the free plan, 1 year on Premium, counted from the event. After that the gallery is gone.
When something goes wrong
The ZIP download fails or the tab crashes on a phone.
The archive is built in the browser's memory before it is saved, so a multi-gigabyte event is far more than a phone will hold. Do it on a laptop or desktop with the tab in the foreground; if you only need a few shots on the phone, save them one at a time from the gallery instead.
The ZIP arrives with fewer files than the gallery shows.
Individual files that fail to fetch are skipped so the rest of the download still completes. Run Download all again on a stable connection — it re-fetches everything from scratch — and compare the file count in the folder against the media count on the event page.
You realise weeks later that you never downloaded anything.
A free event is kept for 14 days and then deleted; nothing can be restored after that. If you are still inside the window, upgrading extends the same event to a year and unlocks Download all — but upgrade before the deadline, not after.
What it is not good for
It is a plain bulk export, not an album: everything lands in one flat folder with generated file names, with no sorting by guest, no selecting a subset, and no way to have the ZIP mailed to you.

Related features
Built for the one evening where it has to just work.
QR Code
The QR code holds one thing: the guest upload address for a single event — a snapr.no link with the event id and a 64-character access key. A phone camera opens it in the browser. Every event gets its own code, and it points at nothing else.
Live Slideshow
A full-screen browser page at snapr.no/<language>/event/<event-id>/display that listens for new uploads and shows them as they arrive. It runs on whatever drives the screen — laptop, TV browser, Chromecast or AirPlay — and needs no software installed.
Photo Sharing
After scanning the QR code a guest lands on an upload page in the phone's browser: one button opens the camera, the other picks from the gallery, up to 20 files per go. The files join the event's shared collection and appear on the big screen.
Photo Wall
A photo wall is the grid mode of the display page: instead of one picture at a time, the screen tiles up to six guest photos at once in a fixed asymmetric layout, and the selection moves one photo forward on every interval as new uploads arrive.
TV Display
TV display means getting the event's display page onto the television at the venue. Three routes: an HDMI cable from a laptop, casting a Chrome tab to a Chromecast, or AirPlay screen mirroring. The TV runs an ordinary web page — there is no Snapr TV app.
Photo Booth Alternative
Using Snapr instead of renting a photo booth: guests shoot on their own phones, upload through a QR code, and the pictures appear on a screen in the room. There is no box, no camera, no lighting and no prints — only the live screen and the shared gallery.
Frequently Asked Questions
What guests and hosts ask about most.
Does Snapr suit a formal gala with a dress code and an awards ceremony, or is it too casual?
Snapr adapts to your event, not the other way around — it's just a QR code and a live screen, with no branding of its own on the guest side. It works for a black-tie gala with a prize ceremony just as well as a casual party.
Can the photos be shown live on the big screen during the gala dinner or between award announcements?
Yes. As soon as a guest uploads a photo it appears in the live slideshow, so you can run it on the screen during dinner or between segments of the ceremony to keep the room engaged.
How does Snapr handle a gala with a large number of guests, sometimes several hundred?
There's no limit on how many guests can scan the QR code and upload — the limit is on total photos in the gallery. The free plan covers up to 200 photos, and Premium raises that to unlimited photos for large events, for a one-time payment.
