How photo wall works for Halloween
Snapr makes photo wall for your Halloween simple and effortless. Create an event in seconds, get a unique QR code, and share it with your guests. They scan the code and upload photos directly — no app download needed.
A photo wall is the grid mode of the display page: instead of one picture at a time, the screen tiles up to six guest photos at once in a fixed asymmetric layout, and the selection moves one photo forward on every interval as new uploads arrive.
Everything is included in the free tier: up to 200 photos, live slideshow, QR code, and 14-day storage. Need more? Premium keeps the photos a full year, with original-quality downloads and unlimited uploads, for a one-time payment.
Setting up Photo Wall
- 1Open the event's display page in a browser on whichever machine drives the screen — the link is public, so nothing has to be signed in there.
- 2Press 2, or tap the grid icon in the top bar, to switch from single view to the photo wall.
- 3Set the pace with + and −: the wall moves one photo forward every 1 to 30 seconds, 5 seconds by default.
- 4Leave the QR overlay showing (Q toggles it) and press F for fullscreen, so guests across the room can still join while the wall runs.
Photo Wall — the specifics
- Photos on screen at once
- Up to 6. With fewer than six uploaded, the layout adapts: 1 full screen, 2 side by side, 3 as one large plus two stacked, 4 as a 2×2.
- Layout at six photos
- One large photo filling the left half, two medium top right, three small bottom right. The positions are fixed, not random.
- How the wall moves
- The six-photo window slides forward by one photo per interval, so five of the six stay and one is replaced.
- Interval
- 5 seconds by default, adjustable from 1 to 30 seconds in one-second steps with + and − or the on-screen buttons.
- Cropping
- Tiles are cropped to fill their box, so tall phone photos lose top and bottom. Single view (key 1) shows every photo whole.
- New uploads
- Downloaded to the display machine first, then inserted about six places ahead in batches of up to six, so they surface within a cycle or two.
When something goes wrong
The same six photos keep going round.
The window only moves one photo per interval, so early in the evening with twenty uploads you see almost the same set every time. Shorten the interval with + while the gallery is small, or stay in single view (key 1) until more photos have landed.
Portrait photos look chopped off in the tiles.
Grid tiles crop to fill, which cuts the top and bottom of tall phone photos. Switch to single view with key 1 for speeches and the first dance, where the whole frame matters, then press 2 to go back.
A photo someone just uploaded isn't on the wall yet.
Each new file is downloaded to the display machine before it is inserted, and it goes in a few places ahead rather than into the visible tiles. Expect a cycle or two, longer on a busy venue wifi. If the wifi icon top right has gone red, the display machine has lost its connection.
What it is not good for
If people are going to stand and study individual pictures — a memorial, or a small gathering that produces twenty photos all evening — the cropping and the constant movement work against you, and single view is the better screen.

Related features
Built for the one evening where it has to just work.
QR Code
The QR code holds one thing: the guest upload address for a single event — a snapr.no link with the event id and a 64-character access key. A phone camera opens it in the browser. Every event gets its own code, and it points at nothing else.
Live Slideshow
A full-screen browser page at snapr.no/<language>/event/<event-id>/display that listens for new uploads and shows them as they arrive. It runs on whatever drives the screen — laptop, TV browser, Chromecast or AirPlay — and needs no software installed.
Photo Sharing
After scanning the QR code a guest lands on an upload page in the phone's browser: one button opens the camera, the other picks from the gallery, up to 20 files per go. The files join the event's shared collection and appear on the big screen.
TV Display
TV display means getting the event's display page onto the television at the venue. Three routes: an HDMI cable from a laptop, casting a Chrome tab to a Chromecast, or AirPlay screen mirroring. The TV runs an ordinary web page — there is no Snapr TV app.
Photo Booth Alternative
Snapr as the booth itself, running on a screen you already own: a tablet, a laptop or an old phone on a stand. It counts down, flashes the screen white and puts the picture on the wall a moment later, under the event's own name. Guests who would rather not queue scan the same QR code and shoot from their own phones into the same gallery. Nothing is delivered, nothing is rented and nothing prints.
DIY Photo Booth
A photo booth you set up yourself: an old tablet, a laptop or a spare phone on a stand, running Snapr's booth screen. It counts down, flashes the screen white and puts the picture on the wall a moment later, under the event's own name. The hardware is whatever you already own — what makes it a booth is the queue, the countdown and the framed photo at the end.
Frequently Asked Questions
What guests and hosts ask about most.
Can we use Snapr for a Halloween party that mixes kids' trick-or-treating with an adult evening event?
Yes. You can run separate events for the kids' afternoon party and the adults-only evening if you want two distinct galleries, or use one QR code all day if it's a single family gathering — either way, guests just scan and upload from their phones.
How does Snapr work for a Halloween party with a costume contest?
Guests upload their costume photos as they arrive, and everything appears live on the screen, so you can use the growing gallery as the backdrop while judging the costume contest or crowning a winner later in the night.
Is there any control over which photos end up on the shared screen at a Halloween party?
The event host has an admin view of the gallery and decides when and how long to display the live slideshow, so you can choose to only put it up once the party is underway rather than running it unattended from the start.
