How QR code works for russefests
Snapr makes QR code for your russefest simple and effortless. Create an event in seconds, get a unique QR code, and share it with your guests. They scan the code and upload photos directly — no app download needed.
The QR code holds one thing: the guest upload address for a single event — a snapr.no link with the event id and a 64-character access key. A phone camera opens it in the browser. Every event gets its own code, and it points at nothing else.
Everything is included in the free tier: up to 200 photos, live slideshow, QR code, and 14-day storage. Need more? Premium keeps the photos a full year, with original-quality downloads and unlimited uploads, for a one-time payment.
Setting up QR Code
- 1Open the QR tab in the event dashboard and scan the code with your own phone first — you should land on the upload page for your event, not an error.
- 2There is no PNG or SVG export yet: print the page straight from the browser (Cmd/Ctrl+P) or take a screenshot and drop it into your table cards, menu or sign at the size you need.
- 3Print on matte paper, keep at least 5 mm of white margin around the code, and never place it over a photo or a dark background — the scanner needs the contrast.
- 4Test it in the room, at the distance and light level guests will actually have: one card on a table, one sign by the entrance, both scanned from where people will stand.
QR Code — the specifics
- What the code contains
- A https://snapr.no/<language>/guest/<event-id> link plus a 64-character key — around 110 characters in total, unique per event.
- Error correction
- Level H in the dashboard (about 30% of the code can be damaged and still scan), level M on the big-screen overlay.
- Print size
- Table card: at least 4 × 4 cm. Sign read from 2 m: at least 20 cm. Rule of thumb — code width = scan distance ÷ 10.
- Size on the big screen
- 15% of screen width by default, placed in one of the four corners; toggled with Q or a click on the screen.
- How long it works
- As long as the event lives: 14 days on the free plan, 365 days on Premium. The key never changes, so a printed code stays valid the whole time — and cannot be revoked.
- Export as a file
- Not available yet — the download button says so. Print from the browser or screenshot the code; it is rendered as SVG, so it stays sharp when scaled up.
When something goes wrong
A guest points the camera at the code and nothing happens.
Older Android camera apps need QR scanning switched on in settings, and some guests are in a camera app that does not scan at all. Write the plain address under the code as a fallback so it can be typed in — it is long, but it works.
The code will not scan in the venue's low light.
Glossy card stock reflects candles and spotlights straight back into the lens. Reprint on matte paper, move the card away from the tea light, or send guests to the QR overlay on the big screen — that one is backlit and always readable.
The page opens but says the link is invalid.
The address lost its ?k=... part — usually because someone copied a shortened version, or the code was cropped in a design tool. Regenerate it from the QR tab and copy the whole thing.
What it is not good for
It is not access control: anyone who can photograph the code — including a guest who snaps it off the big screen and forwards it — can upload, and the key cannot be revoked, so don't use it where the guest list has to stay closed.
